Master's degree programs will teach you the fundamentals of reading education, from phonics to holistic reading strategies. They may also provide you with an administrative education, so you can create individual education programs for remedial learners. Curriculum development is another career  path for the literacy specialist. Curriculum coordinators typically design programs that can be implemented by classroom teachers and support staff.
