Ruhul Amin : better known as Shaheed Mohammad Ruhul Amin was an engineering officer in the Bangladesh Navy who was posthumously awarded the nation's highest bravery award for his service during the Liberation War.
He was born at Bagpachra in the district of Noakhali in 1934. After completing his secondary education from Sunaimuri High School in 1949, he joined the Pakistani Navy and became a commissioned officer. With the outbreak of the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 Amin immediately resigned his commission and became the engineering officer on the Bangladeshi gunboat Comilla at the Chittagong Naval Base. Shortly afterward he was transferred to the naval ship Polash.
On 10 December 1971 the Polash mistakenly came under fire from the Indian Air Force as it crossed the river Rupsha near the Khulna shipyards. Amin marshalled the crew to defend the ship, but was severely wounded and died shortly afterward. He was posthumously awarded Bir Sreshtho, the highest recognition of bravery in Bangladesh.
